Air Products & Controls SL-2000-N Ionization Duct Smoke Detector
New: A brand-new, unused, undamaged item in its original packaging.
The SL‑2000 Series Conventional Duct Detector is the latest innovation for early detection of smoke and products of combustion present in air moving through HVAC ducts in Commercial, Industrial, and Residential applications. The unit is designed to prevent the recirculation or spread of smoke by air handling systems, fans and blowers. Complete systems may be shut down in the event of smoke detection. The SL‑2000 is designed and built to meet all local code requirements, as well as the NFPA and ICC standards regarding HVAC supply and return duct smoke detectors. Output terminals are provided for a wide range of remote accessories such as horns, strobes, remote status indicators, and test/reset key switches or push buttons
The SL‑2000 includes many features that represent true innovations from current generation duct smoke detectors.
– Low-Flow Technology: Both Ionization and Photoelectric models listed for velocities between 100-4000 ft./min
– Operating voltages: 230VAC, 115VAC, 24VAC, 24VDC

The Air Products & Controls SL-2000-N Ionization Duct Smoke Detector is a specialized smoke detection device designed for use in HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems. Its main functionality principal is to detect the presence of smoke or combustion particles in the air flowing through the ductwork of commercial or industrial buildings. Here’s how it works:
- Ionization Chamber: The SL-2000-N contains an ionization chamber, which is a key component of the detector. Inside the ionization chamber, there are two electrodes, one of which is radioactive (typically with a small amount of americium-241). This ionization chamber is placed within the HVAC duct system.
- Airflow: As air circulates through the HVAC ductwork, a portion of this air is drawn into the ionization chamber of the smoke detector.
- Ionization Process: The radioactive material within the ionization chamber emits alpha particles. These alpha particles ionize the air molecules inside the chamber, creating a continuous electrical current between the two electrodes.
- Smoke Detection: When smoke or combustion particles enter the ionization chamber, they disrupt the ionization process. Smoke particles interfere with the ionized air molecules, reducing the electrical current between the electrodes.
- Alarm Activation: The SL-2000-N is designed to monitor the current within the ionization chamber continuously. If a significant drop in current is detected due to the presence of smoke, the detector triggers an alarm signal.
- Alert and Activation: Once an alarm is triggered, the SL-2000-N can activate various safety measures or HVAC system functions, such as shutting down air handlers or initiating fire alarm systems. This helps to minimize the spread of smoke and fire throughout the building.
Advantages and Principal Functionality:
- Early Smoke Detection: The principal functionality of the SL-2000-N is to provide early detection of smoke within HVAC ductwork, allowing for a swift response to potential fire situations.
- Integration: It can be integrated into building management and fire alarm systems, ensuring a coordinated response to fire alarms and enhancing overall building safety.
- Continuous Monitoring: The detector continuously monitors the ionization process, providing ongoing protection against smoke and combustion particles.
- Sensitive Detection: Ionization detectors like the SL-2000-N are highly sensitive to small smoke particles, making them effective in detecting incipient fires.
- Commonly Used in Commercial and Industrial Settings: These duct smoke detectors are commonly used in large buildings, industrial facilities, and commercial spaces where HVAC systems play a crucial role in ventilation.
In summary, the principal functionality of the Air Products & Controls SL-2000-N Ionization Duct Smoke Detector is to monitor airflow within HVAC ducts and detect the presence of smoke or combustion particles, triggering alarms and safety measures to protect occupants and property in the event of a fire.
